* EC: Clarifications and Expectations with George Mills: Got Standards Compliance Troubles? Proceed to the Portal: New Physical Environment Portal provides online resources to help with challenging standards (PDF/QV) [REF: JCSC, LDR, PI] EC News, November 2015, Vol 18, #11, Pg 8 JCe1511_B7
Eight standards (with their 25 related EPs) have been “Dominating the
list of findings for all hospital surveys during the past five years.” This past August, TJC announced the implementation of an online Portal that would provide compliance improvement information and tools for each of these challenging standards. Every two months a different standard is addressed. The value of this second announcement is primarily on its second page. There it lays out the schedule for each standard with more detail on the focus for that presentation. On the same page is an attractive graphic overview of the portal.
Tip1: Cut out the Physical Environment Portal graphic on page 9 for reference purposes
Tip2: Leadership should require a review of each portal presentation by the Engineering Department as they are released with identification of opportunities to improve.

* EC: Joint Commission and ASHE Launch Portal to Address Environmental Challenges: Resources focus on most challenging standards for hospital compliance (PDF/QV) [REF: EOC, JCSC, LDR PI, SFT] EC News, August 2015, Vol 18, #8, Pg 3 JCe1501_B5
Environment of Care (EC) and Life Safety (LS) standards are constantly among the most frequently cited in both general and psychiatric hospitals. In the May issues of EC News TJC announced the most frequently cited standards in the EC and LS chapters for hospitals last year. On July 14th, in collaboration with the American Society for Healthcare Engineering (ASHE), TJC launched the Physical Environment Portal dedicated to providing tools and references for improving compliance with the 8 most frequently cited of those standards. Every two months TJC and ASHE will provide a 2-month focus on one of those standards. In the first month, the goal will be to provide facility mangers with a better understanding of the requirements and real compliance. The second month will be geared more toward providing resources for other leaders and clinicians to assist and help in evaluating compliance. The 8 standards and schedule for their presentation on the portal is as follows:
Tip: Check out the first module on EC.02.05.01, but be aware its related resources will be posted throughout the 2-month cycle so it may be more efficient to check nearer the end of that period.
