• PR: New R3 Report Addresses Memory Care Requirements[®] [REF: LDR, MD, RN] Perspectives July 2014, Vol 34, #10, Pg 11 JCp1410_B2 The focus of R3 Report Issue 6: Memory care accreditation requirements for nursing care centers is on patients with Alzheimer’s disease. However, the report references ‘activity programing based on abilities’ and non-pharmacological approaches to behavior management extracted from a treatment approach designed by Govind Bharwani, PHD called Behavior-Based Ergonomics Therapy (BBET). These concepts could have particular relevance for that small but challenging set of chronically mentally ill patients in our psychiatric hospitals that are generally unable and/or unwilling to participate in our group-based activity/treatment approaches. |

• R3 stands for Requirement, Rationale, Reference. An R3 Report provides a more in-depth RATIONALE than is found in the standards manual along with REFERENCES that TJC used to develop the requirement it focuses on. Note: As per TJC, an R3 Report may be reproduced only in its entirety and credited to The Joint Commission.
