*TS:Perspectives on Patient Safety: Building Physician Leadership[®] [REF: LDR, MD] The Source, March 2014, Vol 12, #3, Pg 13 JCs1403_B3 The American Hospital Association’s (AHA) Physician Leadership Forum has published a white paper entitled Physician Leadership Education. The paper points out the growing importance of physician leadership and the need for physicians who are/will be leaders to have more education and training in support of that role. Of course, this included business/management-related issues. But there was also an identification of key knowledge gaps and skill deficits related to improvement science, change management, and current knowledge of accreditation and regulatory issues. These were thought to ‘significantly impact all aspects of the organization’. Tip: Read the white paper, Physician Leadership Education. Design and implement a physician leadership development program. Consider beginning with a selected reading program.
