* EC: – Clarifications and Expectations: Power Up! Keeping emergency power generators on call and ready to go[®] [REF: EOC, EM, SFT] EC News January 2014, Vol 17, #1, Pg 1 #JCe1410_B6 This article accomplishes two goals. First, it reinforces the need to attend to potential vulnerability of emergency power supply systems (EPSS) due to their location (e.g., susceptibility to flooding in a basement location). Secondly, it reviews several clarifications that have been made to EC.02.05.07. A key clarification is that references to 30-day intervals should be interpreted to mean once per (calendar) month. Testing at this interval may occur any time within the month and still be acceptable EPs 1, 4). TJC has also permitted 90-minute (vs. 2-hr) testing of diesel-fueled generators as per CMS S&C 13-58-LSC (EP5). However, TJC still requires the 4-hour testing of such generators at 30% load every 3 years (EPs 7/8). |
