2013 Survey Activity Guide (PDF) has been updated to include revisions to the Document Lists.  There are 2 major changes! The first is that during survey, all organizations are to be prepared to share their expectations for both the survey team and the on-site survey experience with The Joint Commission. The second change is an updating of the Document Lists. For Hospitals, this includes a number of new items mostly related to organ procurement and fire safety.  For BHC, the list now includes more specific  examples of EOC data that organizations “can provide” to surveyors.
Tip: Hospitals should create a new checklist of required documents and post it in their survey preparation notebook section that contains the required documents.  Go ahead and add the newly required policies and agreements now since they are unlikely to change.  Begin adding Fire Drill Evaluations when you get within 6 months of survey.
Tip: BHC should read “can provide” as a hint to ‘be prepared to provide’ as these issues were likely added to the list because surveyors were already asking about/for them.
