Last year, TJC introduced the concept of applying tracer methodology to the environment of care.  In September and November  EC News presented the first two articles in a potential series on EOC Tracers.   Both used almost the same wording in their 5-paragraph introductions.  The mock tracer example in the first article focused on fire safety while the second examined a hospital’s plan for communications in the event of outside phone lines being down. This article reprises the same 5-paragraph introduction, but this time the tracer targets hazardous materials and waste management.  The written scenario provides a tour through mechanical rooms (with a facilities manager), a review of safety data sheets (with a maintenance supervisor) and a discussion of hazmat safety techniques (with a maintenance worker).  A series (15) of sample questions are numbered, integrated into the scenario and also listed in a sidebar.
