This article provides more detail about the certification process and exam to include:
- The test is a three-hour, 150-question, computer-based, multiple-choice exam that includes embedded scenarios and problem solving.
- The test will be offered quarterly (January, April, July, and October)

- Certification eligibility criteria that requires experience in an accreditation preparation, assistance, coordination, management, or maintenance role for:
- 2 years if currently in the role or 3 consecutive years in previous employment if you have a baccalaureate degree or higher
- 5years if currently in the role or 4 consecutive years in previous employment if you have an associate degree or are an RN
- A completed application with a support letter from your facility administrator and $375.00 submission fee
- Testing will be administered by Applied Measurements Professionals, Inc (AMP) using their network testing sites which are available in a number of major metropolitan areas throughout the states.
The remainder of the article focused on providing advice for testing preparation. We note that there was strong encouragement for candidates to go beyond learning or memorizing standards. One repeated recommendation was to study introductions (chapter and standard) and rationales (including TJC R3 Reports) to gain better understanding of the intent and concepts that underlie the requirements of standards. This may be particularly useful for multiple choice questions, scenarios and problem solving. Other advice included paying particular attention to:
- Standards with patient care impact (i.e., with triangle icons labeled 1-3)
- TJC’s most challenging hospital standards (i.e., Top Compliance Issues)
