• TS: – 5 Sure-Fire Methods: Complying with New Standards for Behavioral Health Care [REF: BHC] The Source, October 2012, Vol 10, # 10, Pg 2 Effective January 1, 2013, there are three new BHC standards addressing community-based prevention and wellness promotion services (CTS.07.01.01 -.03) [®]. If your organization chooses/claims to provide prevention and wellness promotion, they must be appropriately planned, managed and evaluated. As such, these services need to be more extensive than individual participation on a speaker’s bureau , displaying posters or distributing pamphlets at a health fair. The article lists a dozen examples of such services (e.g., Prevention of Substance abuse, Suicide, Truancy, or Domestic Violence). It also provides 5 suggestions for developing programs that would comply with the new requirements. The suggestions include encouragement to ground your program in evidence-based guidelines (where they exist), developing a clear strategy for delivering the prevention service via staff who are properly trained for this and formally evaluating program effectiveness. |
