• PR: – Joint Commission to Launch New Intracycle Monitoring Process [REF: JCCAP, JCSC, LDR, MDx, PI, PPR, RNx] Perspectives September 2012, Vol 32, # 10, Pg 10 TJC’s new Intracycle Monitoring (ICM) process began pilot testing this past January and is not scheduled for full implementation until January, 2013. However, on November 12th, a portion of that process called the ICM Profile will debut as a new workspace on the TJC Connect extranet. This workspace is designed to serve as a repository of information, resources and tools to support your continuous compliance. One of the tools is the new Focused Standards Assessment (FSA). On November 11th, an ‘FSA view’ will replace the Periodic Performance Review (PPR) and its ‘PPR view’. While the FSA requires self-assessment submissions around the 12 and 24 month point, it eliminates that requirement at 36 months. The FSA will also have Options 1, 2 and 3 similar to the PPR. However, unlike the PPR, organizations that submit a full FSA will have an additional option to reduce the scope of their self-assessment by electing to review only a minimum subset of risk-related standards. TJC has determined that approximately 45% to 60% of the total applicable standards in a program (e.g., HAP, BHC) represent the ‘critical few’ (think Pareto’s Principle) that are key to preventing losses of quality and safety in each program’s major risk areas. These are the risk-related standards. They appear in the FSA tool with an ‘R’ risk icon and program-specific lists are already available on your extranet site. For each organization these will include all of the NPSGS along with RFI’s from your last survey, selected direct/indirect impact standards and those related to program-specific risk areas. We do not have specifics on the latter, yet. Note that “Organizations with 2012 PPR submission due dates November 12 through December 31, 2012, and FSA submissions for January 1- February 11, 2012 will receive a submission extension to February 11, 2013″.
