The point of the Tracer Methodology 101 series is to encourage the use of mock tracers for learning and improvement opportunity purposes.  This tracer example is based on HR.02.01.03 which is not applicable to hospitals or BHC.  However, by substituting Medical Director and Medical Director Secretary (or whoever performs the administrative aspects of your C&P), the scenario and related tracer questions become quite relevant and useful for mock survey purposes within psychiatric hospitals.  A Mock Tracer Tracking Worksheet is included on page 10.
Tip: Conduct this focused mock tracer at least once per year, preferably  2-4 months prior to your FSA or expected triennial survey.
Tip:  Collect all of the Mock Tracer Tracking Worksheets and provide copies as handout to your mock surveyor staff.
