CTS.04.01.01, EP 7 and CTS.02.02.09, EP 1 have been deleted because they were considered redundant with other existing TJC standards. However, the article also clarifies the expectation for BHC organizations to contract (vs. refer) for physical health assessments or diagnostic and laboratory
tests if they are “necessary or relevant to the care, treatment, or services provided” to the patient being served. And, remember that “all care, treatment, or services (are to) be of the same quality whether provided directly by the organization or through a contracted service”. The article contains the detailed wording of the revisions.

• PR: – Clarifications and Expectations: Super Suites [FYI: E&M] Perspectives September 2012, Pg 11, Vol 32, # 10

It should be noted that the Life Safety Code can allow certain areas to have a group of rooms function as one large room called a suite. The article provides some details for understanding the barrier and door requirements for sprinkled vs. non-sprinkled suites and describes foot travel distances for required exits in sleeping suites vs non-sleeping suites. Since suites (and their included rooms) are treated as a single space, they afford some opportunities by technically eliminating what would have been considered corridors between those rooms while increasing related storage possibilities with less concern about corridor clutter. Suites can also decrease the number of doors requiring positive latching and smoke resistance. The article also underscores the importance of accurate E-SOC and LSC drawings related to the use of suites.
TIP: Consider whether designating suites would provide any storage and/or fire safety equipping advantages particularly in sleeping areas of your facility.
TIP: “In 2011, 52 percent of all Joint Commission-accredited hospitals did not
