*TS: Benchmark: St. Bernards Medical Center Improves Performance with Staff Education[®] [REF: MDx, StEd] The Source, November 2014, Vol 12, #11, Pg 16 JCs14111_B4 “30%-50% of inpatients treated with an antipsychotic medication concurrently received two or more antipsychotics.” HBIPS-5 requires justification whenever a patient is discharged on multiple antipsychotic medication. In the experience of St. Bernards Medical Center, the most common justification, ‘failed multiple trials of mono therapy; lacked sufficient supporting documentation in the record’. Apparently, for St. Bernards, some of that failure was due to a lack of knowledge about/familiarity with the importance of the core measure and consequently inadequate motivation to fully comply. Their solution was a selective program of physician education; based on indications in monitored discharge paperwork, that a particular physician might have that need. |
