• TS: 5 Sure-Fire Methods: Complying with MS.08.01.03[®] [REF: MDx] The Source, July 2013, Vol 11, #7, Pg 2

In keeping with the title of this series, the article presents 5 recommendations for improving the OPPE process and complying with MS.08.01.03.  The first three involve defining the process, the data to be collected and how that should be done.  Most organizations have done this by now, although they may need to clarify some aspects and ensure consistency of practice.  Recommendation #5 encourages the use of relevant TJC resources such as the FPPE Booster Pak and sample forms available in their Leading Practices Library.  In our experience, the most common point of citation for our hospitals relates to the need to clearly determine and implement the use of OPPE data in privileging-related decision making.  Recommendation #4 addresses this point and lists examples of the types of decisions that should be supported by OPPE data.
Tip: Develop (and document in writing) a mechanism for ensuring the availability and use of OPPE data in all privileging processes.
Tip: Develop a grid that shows the relationship of collected OPPE data to specific competencies (e.g., 6 general competencies).
